Why do I have to apply for membership?
The only reason Music Placement is even able to approach such a wide network of music industry contacts is because of the quality of product we introduce. Our reputation must always be as a provider of the hottest, freshest, new musical talent. A lot of artists think they have the talent to be the next star, but unfortunately few possess this talent. Music Placements must be very selective in the artists and producers we choose to represent in order to protect our reputation and our relationship with our industry contacts.
Am I guaranteed a placement?
Music Placements can never guarantee a music placement. Placements are often dictated by the specific projects that the labels are working on at that time and of course the quality of your product. We present your tracks personally and directly to project coordinators and A&R reps to give you the best possible opportunity at a placement. However, nothing is guaranteed. The only guarantee that Music Placements makes is that your tracks will be heard by a minimum of 5 of the contacts in our A&R network.
Who will hear my music?
You will work directly with Nu, Head of A&R research at Music Placements, to identify which contacts in our vast network would have the most interest in your music. Nu has worked closely with some of the top executives in the industry. Music Placements guarantees your tracks will be reviewed by at least 5 contacts in our network including: Atlantic Recordings, Island Def Jam, Disturbing the Peace, Asylum, Shady Records, Aftermath Records, Bad Boy Records, MTV Networks, Byrdgang Records, Diplomat Records, EMI Urban Music Publishing, TVT Records.
What does Music Placements get?
We realize that the content you are providing is your body of work as an artist and as such you should retain ownership of that content. YOU retain all rights to your master recordings. Music Placement only gets a per track fee for presenting your tracks to the industry contacts and 25% of your publishing rights.
How long does the process take?
The process can take anywhere from 3 to 12 months to receive final pay out. We present your tracks to the project coordinator. If they are interested in your work, they will usually send your track to the artist to see if they are interested in using that track for any projects they are currently working on. They would then request a meeting with you and you would negiotiate an agreement for either that particular track or a broader relationship (such as a publishing deal). Eventually you may be temporarily relocated to lay down the track(s) with the artist. After the track has been cut and its use is determined, the agreed upon payment for that track is released.
